From hardships to hope
Nadiya Jan’s resilience shines bright with power of community support
In the tranquil village of Shadab Karewa, cradled by the emerald embrace of Shopian’s hills, lives 11-year-old girl Nadiya Jan (Name Changed).
Her spirit, like the mountains that surround her, is imbued with an unwavering resilience.
The journey of Nadiya, a student of 6th standard of Chanch Marg, Shadab Karewa, is woven with threads of hardship and determination.
Nadiya’s father, Muhammad Altaf Khan passed away in the year 2022 following which she was on verge of leaving studies as the four-member family had no source of income.
Besides Nadiya, her family comprises her younger sister Sana Jan, a 2nd standard student, disabled mother Shahnaz, and grandmother Khadija.
Conquering adversity by clinging on to studies and walking 2 km to Hanfiya Paradise Public School, Shadab Karewa, and back every day is a testament to her indomitable spirit.
Amidst the throes of tragedy and financial constraints, Nadiya’s unwavering commitment to education remained a constant flame.
The seeds of change in her life were sown within the heart of her community.
The Child Protection Group (CPG) in Shadab Karewa, a beacon of hope, gathered to discuss Nadiya’s case.
As they brainstormed solutions, their voices echoed with concern for her well-being.
“We knew action was imperative to support Nadiya and her family,” a member of the CPG Ali Muhammad said. “Education is the key that unlocks the shackles of poverty.”
Another CPG member Fayaz Ahmad said, “But our efforts alone were insufficient. We needed the unwavering support of other organisations supporting this cause to truly make a difference.”
Heeding this call, Human Welfare Voluntary Organsation (HWVO) joined hands with the community, creating a powerful force to uplift Nadiya and her younger sister, Sana.
Together, they became a lifeline in their hour of need.
HWVO connected her to a mentor Muhammad Amir Khan, who now looks after her progress both at home as well as studies at her school.
Through the transformative power of education and the unwavering support of their community, Nadiya’s future began to bloom.
Hope, like a gentle breeze, rustled through the chapters of their lives. Nadiya’s story serves as a luminous testament to the power of collective action. It illuminates the truth that no obstacle is insurmountable when we stand together, united for a brighter tomorrow.
Nadiya’s journey is a beacon, inspiring all to weave a future brimming with hope and opportunity.
